Just wondering what your fave hostel is that you may have stopped in? Personally I loved pretty much all the homely hostels of New Zealand, but one stuck out as being even better.
It was near Mount Luxmore, and we stopped there just after we'd finished our trek over said mountain. We had three comfortable beds in a huge room, a log fire, electric heater, big TV, good kitchenette, nice bathroom. Then in the main building, they had a huge kitchen, log fires everywhere, balcony with a pool table, lots of games to pass the time. Everything in other words, that you need when your legs are stiff as concrete, and you're absolutely exhausted from a three day mountain trek.
