What do you need?

Knowing how much you're going to need to take with you is always a hard one. It can very much depend on where you're going and of course, how long for.

Also, what should you get insurance-wise? Just medical cover, or should you get all your equipment insured too?

Unless you have some expensive bit of equipment with you (if so I hope you have a good reason), I think medical insurance is all you're ever going to need. It's pretty reasonable too, if you go to the right place.
